Surah Hud Ayat 82 Tafseer

Para 12 - وَ مَا مِنْ دَآبَّةٍ

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ

11.82

فَلَمَّا جَآءَ اَمْرُنَا جَعَلْنَا عَالِیَهَا سَافِلَهَا وَ اَمْطَرْنَا عَلَیْهَا حِجَارَةً مِّنْ سِجِّیْلٍ ﳔ مَّنْضُوْدٍۙ (82)

English translation of Kanz-ul-Irfan

So when Our decree came to pass, We made its upper part into its lower part (turning the settlement upside down) and showered upon them stones of baked clay, continuously;[1]

Commentary

The nation of Lūṭ عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلاَم was punished in such a way that the archangel Jibrīl عَـلَيْـهِ الـسَّـلاَم placed one of his wings under the land of their five cities, the largest of which was Sudūm (Sodom) with a population of 400,000, then the whole area was raised to such a height that the barking of dogs and the clucking of chickens reached the sky; these settlements were lifted effortlessly without even causing water to spill from utensils or awakening those who were sleeping, then suddenly the raised land was turned upside down and cast down towards the earth. Those of them who were absent due to travel were destroyed by rocks raining down on them. Some commentators have said that after the settlements were upturned, rocks rained down upon the people.
